The word read can be pronounced in two different ways:
Please read the instructions. Note: Read is pronouned reed when it's about something in the present, now.
I read that book last week. Note: Read is pronouned red when it's about something in the past, and finished.
I was reading about cats. Note: This is also about something in the past, but is pronounced reeding, not reding.
